Soon after Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced his decision to move to the Rajya Sabha, RJD leader Rohini Acharya criticized him for his history of betraying political allies. Acharya, daughter of Lalu Prasad, accused Kumar of being responsible for his own political situation due to his repeated betrayals.
She claimed that Nitish Kumar’s move to the Rajya Sabha was influenced by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and linked it to his exit from the Grand Alliance on January 28, 2024. Acharya described Kumar as opportunistic and accused him of returning to the NDA out of a desire to retain power.
Acharya also alleged that Nitish Kumar had disregarded warnings from his former socialist colleagues and pointed to political events in Maharashtra involving Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde to highlight the BJP’s treatment of allies in other states. She accused Kumar of being politically weakened and under undue influence from the BJP.
Her comments reflect the ongoing verbal sparring between the RJD and NDA amidst recent political developments in Bihar. Nitish Kumar’s decision to seek a Rajya Sabha seat has sparked strong reactions across party lines, heightening political uncertainty in the state.
Nitish Kumar, in his statement, expressed gratitude for the trust and support he has received from the people of Bihar over the past two decades. He credited their faith for Bihar’s progress and his enhanced national reputation, reaffirming his commitment to serving the state diligently.
Stating his long-standing aspiration to be a member of both Houses of the Bihar Legislature and Parliament, Kumar announced his intention to contest the Rajya Sabha election. He assured the people of his unwavering dedication to building a prosperous Bihar and pledged support to the upcoming government.
