In a unique initiative blending technology with democracy, humanoid robots greeted voters in parts of Vellore district during the Tamil Nadu Assembly elections. At select polling stations in Gudiyatham and Vellore constituencies, these robots engaged voters, aiming to enhance their voting experience. The introduction of robots by election authorities on a trial basis showcased the integration of technology into public services.
At the Government Municipal Higher Secondary School in Gudiyatham, a robot in a saree welcomed voters in Tamil, offering flowers and chocolates to create a festive atmosphere. Voters expressed surprise and appreciation for the robot’s assistance and safety tips during the voting process. Officials selected two out of 1,427 polling booths in Vellore district for this experimental deployment of robots.
In Gudiyatham and Vellore Assembly constituencies, robots not only welcomed voters but also guided them through the polling station facilities, streamlining the voting process. Equipped with sensors, the robots interacted with voters, offering handshakes and providing clear instructions on voting procedures. Additionally, the robots played a crucial role in voter awareness, making announcements about special arrangements for different voter groups.
The initiative attracted widespread attention and curiosity, with many voters engaging briefly with the robots. Election officials viewed this move as part of broader efforts to make voting more accessible, efficient, and engaging in an increasingly technology-driven environment.
