Talismanic opener Rohit Sharma is expected to sit out the next few games as the Mumbai Indians aim to bounce back from three consecutive defeats in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.
Rohit’s lack of full fitness following a right hamstring injury sustained during the match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12 was confirmed just before Mumbai Indians’ game with Punjab Kings.
Skipper Hardik Pandya revealed at the toss that Rohit Sharma will be absent for at least the next couple of matches to allow for further assessment of his recovery progress.
Rohit’s injury occurred during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru match on April 12, where he retired hurt after scoring 19 runs. Despite undergoing scans and light training, his participation in upcoming matches remains uncertain as he continues to be evaluated by the medical team and management.
The Mumbai Indians franchise stated that Rohit’s condition is still under evaluation, with the player missing practice sessions and only engaging in limited training activities. His absence from the warmup routine before the match against Punjab Kings confirmed his unavailability for the game.
Despite Rohit’s absence, Quinton de Kock’s inclusion in the playing XI proved beneficial as he scored a half-century, aiding Mumbai Indians in recovering from a slow start against Punjab Kings.
