Romania’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that a member of the Russian Embassy in Bucharest has been declared undesirable and must leave the country within five days. This decision follows repeated violations of Romania’s airspace, with the Romanian Armed Forces shooting down three unauthorized drones of Russian origin.
In response to these actions, the Romanian Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian Ambassador and expressed strong disapproval of the airspace violations. Romania emphasized that such actions are unacceptable and intolerable, especially as they impact not only Romanian airspace but also NATO and EU airspace.
Furthermore, Romania has recalled its Ambassador to Russia for consultations and will collaborate closely with NATO and the EU to safeguard national security. Recent incidents involving drones, including a self-detonation in Constanta port and a crash in Galati municipality, have heightened tensions between the two countries.
