Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced that Romania had taken down another drone for breaching its airspace, marking the second such incident within 48 hours. The drone was intercepted and shot down approximately 10 km west of Sfantu Gheorghe in central Romania. Romania’s Ministry of National Defence reported that their radar systems detected the unauthorized drone entering the national airspace from the border area with Ukraine.
The Ministry stated that two F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft of the Romanian Air Force were deployed to intercept and neutralize the drone following standard procedures. The drone was safely brought down in an unpopulated region near the border. Notably, the same pilot who downed a drone in Buzau County on Friday was responsible for this operation. President Dan emphasized the ongoing investigations to determine the circumstances of the airspace violation and the identity of the drone.
The Ministry further revealed that their radar surveillance system identified an aerial target east of Sulina, which later breached the national airspace. An F-16 fighter aircraft engaged the target with an air-to-air missile, neutralizing it near Padina, Buzau County. In response to the situation, two Italian Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft and two Romanian Air Force F-16 aircraft were mobilized.
