Rudi Voller, at 66 years old, has confirmed that he will stay on as the sporting director of the German Football Association (DFB) to assist in the national team’s reconstruction. This decision comes after Germany’s exit from the World Cup and the resignation of head coach Julian Nagelsmann. Voller expressed his commitment to fulfill his DFB contract until the 2028 European Championship.
Voller mentioned that the support he received from key officials and figures in German football influenced his choice to remain in his role. He highlighted a significant phone call with Jurgen Klopp, the preferred candidate to succeed Nagelsmann, where Klopp expressed his desire for Voller to continue in his position.
The DFB president and other notable figures in German football have also backed Voller’s continuation. Voller emphasized that his decision was based on the need for sporting success and his desire to contribute effectively to the team’s operations under Klopp’s leadership.
Voller expressed confidence in the ongoing negotiations involving Klopp’s potential appointment and his role within the team. He indicated his intention to adopt a more background role under Klopp’s leadership, intervening only when necessary to ensure the team’s cohesion and success.
