The Rugby Premier League (RPL) Season 2 commenced with a dazzling opening ceremony at Hyderabad’s Gachibowli Stadium. This marks the start of India’s top professional rugby competition. The event in Hyderabad saw the unveiling of the Women’s Trophy and the introduction of four women’s franchises, making it a significant season for the league.
The ceremony was graced by notable figures including Vakiti Srihari, Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs, Government of Telangana, and Rahul Bose, President of Rugby India, among others. They joined players in inaugurating a new era for rugby in India. Welcoming the league to Hyderabad, Vakiti Srihari expressed pride in hosting the Rugby Premier League and emphasized Telangana’s commitment to supporting sporting excellence.
Jayesh Ranjan, IAS, Special Chief Secretary to the Government (Youth Advancement, Tourism & Culture & Sports Department), Government of Telangana, highlighted the state’s ambition to become a premier sports hub in India. The Sports Authority of Telangana, represented by A. Soni Bala Devi, IFS, Vice Chairperson & Managing Director, extended support to the Rugby Premier League, emphasizing the importance of hosting such events for athlete development.
Looking forward to an exciting season, Rahul Bose, president of Rugby India, promised an enhanced experience for fans in RPL 2026. The league features elite rugby talent from around the world alongside India’s top players. Hyderabad will be the center of rugby action in India over the next two weeks, showcasing fast-paced rugby sevens matches and the sport’s growing popularity across the nation.
The HSBC Rugby Premier League Season 2 is scheduled to take place from June 16 to 28 at the Gachibowli Stadium in Hyderabad.
