Doda district in Jammu and Kashmir is experiencing enhanced rural connectivity through the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) Phase-IV. The central government has approved approximately 31 new road sections in the district, aiming to improve infrastructure in this predominantly hilly area.
Executive Engineer PMGSY Doda, Zakir Hussain Zargar, mentioned that 26 road projects have been assigned to contractors after the tendering process. Construction has started on 20 roads, with work on the remaining six set to commence soon.
Zargar expressed optimism about the approval of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) for villages lacking connectivity, which would facilitate further expansion of the road network. Efforts are underway to ensure that every village receives road connectivity, enhancing the quality of life for residents.
The impact of these road projects is evident on the ground, with villagers welcoming the improved connectivity. They note that transportation has become easier and safer, particularly during emergencies and inclement weather. Access to essential services has significantly improved, benefiting both locals and traders in the region.
Improved roads are expected to boost local trade by facilitating easier transportation of goods. Sajad Malik, a local resident, emphasized that the PMGSY roads are not only enhancing mobility but also contributing to the overall development of the district.
