Russia’s Foreign Ministry criticized the EU-3, consisting of Britain, Germany, and France, for proposing unacceptable terms for resolving the Ukraine conflict. The Ministry accused the Europeans of hindering genuine peace negotiations. French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently met to outline five conditions for starting the settlement process. These conditions include halting hostilities, respecting Ukraine’s borders, and ensuring Ukraine’s right to choose its security alliances.
The EU-3’s demands also include providing strong security guarantees for Ukraine, deploying a multinational force, and maintaining sanctions on Russia until damages from the conflict are compensated. Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Maria Zakharova, criticized the European leaders for their stance, stating that their conditions were not new and had been previously raised in other formats. Zakharova highlighted the contradictory positions of France, Germany, and Britain, accusing them of militarizing Ukraine and Europe under the guise of promoting peace.
Zakharova pointed out that European leaders openly support Ukraine, revealing their bias against Russia in the conflict. She emphasized that Europe’s alignment with Ukraine undermines its neutrality and aims to negotiate against Russia. The diplomat noted that European diplomacy’s stance indicates a unified Western delegation with Ukraine against Russia, rather than a neutral mediation role. The comments reflect growing tensions and differing perspectives on the Ukraine crisis.
