Ryan Cook has resigned as the head coach of the Netherlands men’s cricket team, as announced by the Royal Dutch Cricket Association (KNCB). Cook’s departure, effective immediately, concludes his four-year tenure during which the Dutch team achieved significant milestones in cricket. Despite the Netherlands’ current strong position in the Cricket World Cup League 2, Cook cited personal reasons, including the birth of his second child, for stepping down.
Batting coach Heino Kuhn will temporarily lead the team in the upcoming Cricket World Cup League 2 matches following Cook’s exit. During his time as head coach, Cook played a pivotal role in the team’s growth, securing qualifications for major ICC events and delivering notable performances against Full Member nations. Acknowledging the support he received, Cook expressed gratitude towards the KNCB and the Dutch cricket community for their backing throughout his coaching journey.
Cook’s coaching highlights include guiding the Netherlands to qualify for the 2022 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup and the 2023 ODI World Cup. His departure signifies the need for a higher level of commitment to the role, which he believes he can no longer provide. The KNCB CEO Huib van Walsem praised Cook for his transformative impact on Dutch cricket, emphasizing his contributions to player development, team culture, and coaching progress beyond the national team.
Netherlands captain Scott Edwards commended Cook for his instrumental role in the team’s progress and Dutch cricket’s overall development. Edwards credited Cook’s dedication to fostering a strong team culture that led to memorable performances and set the team up for future success. As the Netherlands embark on the search for a permanent replacement, they aim to continue their journey towards qualifying for upcoming global tournaments, building on the foundation laid during Cook’s leadership.
