Sahil Jadhav secured a bronze medal in the men’s individual compound competition at the Archery World Cup 2026 Stage 2 by defeating Denmark’s Martin Damsbo 147-144. This victory marked his first career World Cup medal, achieved at the age of 25. Despite initially falling behind in the first set, Sahil staged a comeback by winning the subsequent four sets, ensuring his place on the podium.
His journey to the bronze included a narrow victory over Austria’s Nico Wiener, the 2021 world champion, in the quarter-finals. However, Sahil’s progress was halted in the semi-finals by reigning world champion Nicolas Girard of France, who clinched a 147-145 win. Notable wins in Sahil’s campaign included triumphs over Indian veteran Abhishek Verma and Germany’s Ruven Fluss in earlier rounds.
India’s performance at the Shanghai World Cup saw Sahil’s bronze as the sole medal in the compound events this year, a significant contrast to the five medals secured at the same venue in the previous year. Kushal Dalal and former world champion Ojas Deotale faced eliminations in the quarter-finals and round of 16, respectively. Additionally, India’s men’s compound team, previous gold medalists in Shanghai, missed the podium after a quarter-final defeat.
In the women’s compound team event, India was ousted in the quarter-finals by Turkiye with a score of 233-227. Notable exits included defending champion Madhura Dhamangaonkar in the round of 32 and former world champion Aditi Swami in the quarter-finals. Aditi Swami, a standout performer in the women’s individual compound event, was eliminated in a quarter-final shoot-off by Estonia’s Lisell Jaatma.
The mixed compound team event, set to debut at the LA 2028 Olympics, saw Aditi Swami and Ojas Deotale lose in the quarter-finals to the American pair of Alexis Ruiz and James Lutz. India’s medal hopes now rest on the recurve events, with Simranjeet Kaur advancing to the women’s individual semi-finals and the Indian women’s recurve team gearing up to face China in the gold medal match.
