The Salem City Police have given conditional approval for Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) leader and actor-turned-politician Vijay to conduct a public campaign meeting on February 13 at the Thalamuthu Natarajan Stadium. This permission comes with strict safety and crowd-control regulations in place. The decision follows discussions and petitions between TVK organizers and the police regarding the venue and adherence to official procedures.
TVK executives, led by central district secretary Tamilan A. Parthiban, initially sought permission from Salem City Police Commissioner Anil Kumar Giri for the meeting at the stadium. However, the request was initially denied due to unclear procedural details required by government guidelines. Another application was later submitted by union secretary Karthi at the Magudanchavadi police station for an alternative venue, pending review.
After submitting a revised petition with assurances of compliance, including limiting attendance to 5,000 people, the police granted permission with conditions. The organizers must regulate entry using a token system to control the crowd size, ensure security, emergency response, and traffic management, and restrict the event to a specific time frame from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on February 13. Authorities have also cautioned against children and pregnant women attending due to potential risks associated with large gatherings.
