Samajwadi Party’s Chief Whip in the UP Assembly, Kamal Akhtar, has resigned from his position. This move follows rumored differences between Akhtar and Moradabad MP Ruchi Veera. Akhtar, who represents the Kanth Assembly seat, clarified that his decision was made under the guidance of SP President Akhilesh Yadav.
Discussions within the party have intensified after Akhtar’s resignation, with talks focusing on potential organizational changes and emerging political dynamics. Despite speculations, Akhtar emphasized that there are no conflicts or controversies involved. He stated, “I have no differences with anyone and will continue to work with full dedication under Akhilesh Yadav’s leadership.”
Amid ongoing rumors of discord between Akhtar and MP Ruchi Veera, party sources revealed disagreements over organizational coordination and regional activities. Akhilesh Yadav mediated a meeting between the two leaders in Lucknow to address the issues. The meeting also involved key party members like Javed Ali, Yusuf Ansari, Jaivir Singh Yadav, and Khushnood Ali.
Following the meeting, where Akhilesh Yadav attempted to resolve the dispute, it was believed that the matter had been settled. However, Akhtar’s resignation has reignited discussions. Akhtar was appointed as the SP’s Chief Whip in the Assembly on July 28, 2024, succeeding MLA Manoj Kumar Pandey, who had left the position after voting against the party line during the Rajya Sabha elections and subsequently joining the BJP.
