Indian wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson has been awarded the ICC men’s player of the month for his outstanding performance during the T20 World Cup 2026 knockouts. This recognition marks Samson’s first win of this prestigious title, earned through his exceptional display during the World Cup.
Samson’s journey in the 2026 Men’s T20 World Cup took a remarkable turn from initially being on the sidelines to becoming a pivotal player in the team’s success, starting from the Super Eights clash against Zimbabwe in Chennai.
His remarkable innings included a memorable 97 not out against the West Indies, crucial scores of 89 in both the semi-final against England and the final against New Zealand. These performances were instrumental in India’s retention of the title on home soil, with Samson also securing the Player of the Tournament award.
Speaking about this accolade, Samson expressed his gratitude and reflected on the significance of this recognition in his cricketing journey. “Winning the ICC Player of the Month award is an incredible feeling, especially during this unforgettable phase of my cricketing career. Being part of India’s victory at the Men’s T20 World Cup was a dream come true,” Samson stated as quoted by ICC.
Acknowledging the talent in Indian cricket, Samson emphasized the support he received from his teammates and coaching staff, enabling him to deliver his best performances on the field.
In addition to Samson, Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and South African batter Connor Esterhuizen were also nominated for the player of the month award. While Bumrah played a crucial role in the T20 World Cup 2026 final against New Zealand, Esterhuizen showcased his skills by scoring 200 runs in five matches for South Africa post the tournament. However, it was Samson who emerged as the recipient of this prestigious title.
