Offspin all-rounder Saransh Jain received his first Test call-up, while veteran spin all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja returns to the red-ball team for the first time since November 2025 as the BCCI unveiled the 15-man squad for the upcoming two-match series against Sri Lanka, set to commence on August 15. Jasprit Bumrah, India’s pace spearhead, also rejoined the Test squad post the South Africa series last November, pending fitness clearance following an injury sustained during the recent ODI series in England.
Jadeja had been sidelined since the IPL 2026 season due to a tennis elbow injury. Washington Sundar, recovering from a right hamstring strain that kept him out of the Lord’s ODI, was unavailable for the first Test, paving the way for Saransh’s debut call-up. Saransh showcased his skills during India A’s Sri Lanka tour, notably scoring an unbeaten 70 and claiming six wickets in the second unofficial Test. With 2223 runs at an average of 31.75 and 188 wickets at 27.30 from 54 first-class matches, Saransh has made a strong case for his selection.
The Shubman Gill-led squad is slated to play two Test matches in Sri Lanka as part of their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) obligations. Leading up to the series, the team will engage in a four-day practice match in Colombo starting on August 7. The first Test is scheduled at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from August 15 to 19, followed by the second Test at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo from August 23 to 27.
This series marks India’s return to the World Test Championship cycle since their 2-0 home loss to South Africa in November. India currently holds the fifth position in the WTC standings, with Sri Lanka trailing in sixth place.
