Saudi Arabia cautioned Iran to avoid “misguided calculations” as tensions escalate in the West Asia region. Iran has launched retaliatory missile and drone strikes towards Israel, US military positions, and Arab states in the Gulf, targeting energy infrastructure and civilian locations. Saudi Arabia’s Defence Minister issued the warning after meeting with Pakistan’s Army Chief, emphasizing the need for Iran to act wisely and prevent further escalation.
Saudi Arabia reported the successful interception of a ballistic missile aimed at a military facility near the capital. The Kingdom’s air defense systems neutralized the incoming attack, preventing it from reaching its target. Additionally, Saudi officials disclosed the interception of multiple aerial threats in recent days, including drones and a cruise missile.
Iranian drones targeted the US Embassy in Riyadh earlier in the week, causing minor structural damage. The US Embassy advised American citizens to avoid the compound as a precaution. Saudi Arabia’s key energy infrastructure, including the Ras Tanura oil refinery, has also been under attack. Despite the drone assault on the refinery, Saudi air defenses managed to intercept the aircraft before any damage occurred.
