The SC/ST Court in Tonk has scheduled 6 August as the deadline for the arrest of independent candidate Naresh Meena, who is accused of assaulting an SDM during the Deoli-Uniara by-election, following the cancellation of his conditional bail. The Nagarfort police, as per the court’s instructions, are in the process of gathering information on his assets for court submission.
Meena, who had been in jail for about nine months, was granted conditional bail by the High Court. However, the SC/ST Court revoked this bail on 13 July, citing a breach of bail conditions after his subsequent arrest during a protest in Jhalawar. An arrest warrant was issued on the same day. The police have been directed to arrest Meena by 6 August, and they are actively working to comply with the court’s order.
In line with the court’s directives, the Nagarfort police have begun collecting details of Meena’s assets. A letter has been dispatched to the Sarpanch of Nayagaon (Nanwata) Gram Panchayat in Mothpur tehsil of Baran district, requesting records of his movable and immovable properties related to the case registered at Nagarfort police station. The information is to be provided promptly for submission to the court.
Meena, who had earlier obtained conditional bail in the Deoli-Uniara by-election case, found himself back in custody after his arrest during a protest in Jhalawar. The SC/ST Court determined that he had breached the bail conditions, leading to the cancellation of his bail on 13 July and a subsequent order for his re-arrest.
Meena’s associate, Rakesh Bainsla, has alleged that the government’s motive in keeping Meena incarcerated is to stifle his rising popularity before the upcoming Panchayat Raj elections. Bainsla claimed that this action is an attempt to silence the voices of farmers, laborers, students, and other marginalized groups.
