A 45-year-old school peon was arrested in Mumbai for allegedly inappropriately touching a six-year-old student in the Govandi area, sparking widespread outrage over student safety. The minor victim bravely disclosed the incident to his family upon returning home from school, leading to a formal complaint lodged at the Govandi Police Station. Authorities acted promptly, taking the accused into custody.
The Mumbai Police have filed a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and are currently reviewing the school’s CCTV footage and questioning staff to establish the sequence of events. Concerned parents of other students have criticized the school administration for failing to ensure a secure environment, urging stricter screening of non-teaching staff.
In a separate incident, Mumbai Police arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly stalking and sexually harassing a 19-year-old former colleague. The victim, who previously worked at a telecalling company, reported receiving lewd messages, obscene photos, and videos from the accused, who she had never interacted with during her employment. The harassment escalated despite warnings, with the accused allegedly pressuring her for an interfaith relationship.
Following the victim’s complaint, the police swiftly apprehended the suspect. These incidents have reignited discussions in Mumbai on the importance of robust workplace safety measures and increased vigilance in educational institutions to safeguard minors from potential threats.
