A school teacher in the Maheshtala area of South 24 Parganas district, West Bengal, has been taken into custody for reportedly molesting a Class 4 student. The incident has caused unrest among local residents, leading to protests by concerned parents at the school.
The arrest, made late Wednesday night, followed a formal complaint filed at the Maheshtala police station. Authorities have registered a case under the relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused teacher allegedly lured the girl out of the classroom on the pretext of giving her a storybook and then molested her on the school’s second floor.
Upon learning of the incident, the student’s family confronted the school, prompting a gathering of parents demanding accountability from the school administration. The police acted promptly, apprehending the teacher shortly after the complaint was lodged. Previous allegations of similar misconduct against the teacher have also surfaced, as per police sources.
Questions have arisen regarding the delay in taking action against the accused teacher despite prior misconduct allegations. The school’s routine activities have been disrupted since the incident occurred on Wednesday.
