A 21-year-old seafarer was rescued off the Porbandar coast by the Indian Coast Guard in a challenging medical evacuation operation. The rescue was prompted by a medical emergency aboard the merchant vessel ‘MT Murlikisan’ reported by the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre in Mumbai.
The seafarer was suffering from acute chest pain and a high fever, necessitating urgent medical attention. Due to rough seas, the vessel was unable to dock, leading the Coast Guard to airlift the crew member using an Advanced Light Helicopter from Porbandar.
After being airlifted, the seafarer received initial stabilisation from an Indian Coast Guard medical officer before being transferred to Asha Hospital in Porbandar for specialized treatment. His condition is now reported to be stable, thanks to the successful rescue mission.
The Indian Coast Guard highlighted the operation as a well-coordinated medical evacuation conducted under adverse weather conditions, emphasizing their dedication to maritime search-and-rescue missions with the motto, “Vayam Rakshamah (We Protect).”
The recent rescue adds to a series of successful medical evacuations carried out by the Indian Coast Guard, showcasing their expertise in handling such critical situations.
