The search operation for a missing Kerala tourist at the frozen Sela Lake in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tawang district entered its second day on Saturday. Seven tourists from Kerala had visited Tawang to explore Sela Lake, with one tourist found dead and another rescued alive. Efforts are ongoing to locate the third missing tourist, Mahadev M. (24).
The Indian Army, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) are collaborating in the search operation. The Army, along with other agencies, retrieved two tourists from the frozen lake, where one tourist tragically lost his life. Search operations for the remaining missing tourist commenced promptly on Friday.
Sela Lake, situated at an altitude of around 13,700 feet above sea level, remains frozen during this period. Despite challenging weather conditions and high altitude, rescue operations were swiftly conducted by the Indian Army, resulting in one tourist being revived and another found deceased. The search for the third missing tourist is ongoing.
All other tourists have been safely accommodated at nearby Army camps and are receiving necessary care. Authorities emphasize the importance of following safety guidelines and advisories issued by the civil administration to prevent such incidents in the future. Tourists are urged to heed warning signboards and instructions for their own well-being.
