A second hospital in central Kolkata declined admission to Abhishek Banerjee, Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member, following an assault earlier in the day. Initially taken to a private hospital near East Metropolitan Bypass, he was later moved to another facility in Minto Park for examination.
At Minto Park, medical authorities determined that no admission was necessary and issued a medical certificate stating so. The certificate mentioned the absence of major internal injuries and Banerjee’s full consciousness, prescribing only a few medications including a digestive tablet.
Mamata Banerjee, former West Bengal Chief Minister, expressed dissatisfaction with the treatment received by her nephew at both hospitals. She alleged that the hospitals refused admission and proper care due to pressure from the state administration. Banerjee left the hospital with her nephew, stating that the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha offered assistance in getting him treated outside West Bengal.
