The second post-mortem process of Twisha Sharma, the former Miss Pune contestant who died under mysterious circumstances, commenced at AIIMS Bhopal. A high-level forensic team from AIIMS Delhi, led by Dr. Sudhir Gupta, is overseeing the detailed scientific examination of the body for the second time. The procedure is being fully videographed to ensure transparency in determining the exact cause of death.
Twisha Sharma’s family members, accompanied by the Special Investigation Team (SIT), arrived at the mortuary where her body had been preserved since May 12. Strict security measures, including heavy police deployment and barricades, have been implemented to avoid any untoward incidents. Twisha Sharma, hailing from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, was found hanging at her matrimonial home in Bhopal’s Katara Hills area on May 12, sparking allegations of severe dowry harassment and mental torture by her husband and mother-in-law.
The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case, focusing on alleged institutional bias and procedural discrepancies in unnatural deaths at matrimonial homes. Scheduled for a hearing on May 25, the case has garnered significant public outcry and media attention nationwide, highlighting concerns about women’s safety in marriages and the handling of dowry-related complaints. The upcoming second post-mortem report is anticipated to play a pivotal role in determining whether Twisha Sharma’s death was a suicide or a homicide.
