A tragic incident unfolded at Durgapur’s IQ City Medical College Hospital as the hanging body of a second-year student was discovered in the hostel bathroom. The student, identified as Lavanya Pratap, allegedly took his own life following exam failure, as per police reports received on Sunday. The authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter, with the deceased student hailing from Patna, Bihar.
The police have labeled the incident as an unnatural death, with the body scheduled for autopsy at Durgapur Subdistrict Hospital. Family sources revealed that the student struggled with exam results, prompting speculations about the circumstances leading to the extreme step. While the hospital morgue currently houses the body, the incident has stirred emotions within the medical college premises.
The student’s father expressed concerns over the exam performance and subsequent review process, hinting at a possible trigger for his son’s drastic decision. However, authorities await the autopsy report to confirm any foul play in the tragic event. Notably, this medical college faced a similar controversy in 2025 when a first-year student was allegedly gang-raped off-campus, leading to arrests and legal actions.
