Security forces in Manipur have detained 15 militants associated with banned groups, including 14 members of the United National Liberation Front (Koireng faction) from Thoubal and Imphal West districts. The arrested UNLF (K) cadres were found in the Haokhong area of Thoubal district with a significant array of items, such as two INSAS rifles, ammunition, cash, mobile phones, helmets, and vehicles. Another operation led to the capture of a member of the People’s Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) in Imphal West district, along with arms and ammunition recovery in Churachandpur district.
Security operations in Manipur are ongoing, with recent recoveries including a rocket-propelled grenade, grenades, mortar bombs, rifles, and live ammunition from the Geljang area. The crackdown on militant groups involves joint efforts of central and state agencies, conducting search operations and area domination drives in various districts. To enhance security, 113 checkpoints have been established across Manipur, covering both valley and hill districts to monitor suspicious activities and prevent illegal movements.
Moreover, security forces are ensuring safe transportation by providing escorts to vehicles, especially essential commodities carriers, along the Imphal-Jiribam National Highway. Stringent security measures are in place in sensitive areas to safeguard transportation routes. Manipur Police have issued warnings against believing and sharing fake news on social media, urging the public to verify the authenticity of any circulated content through the Central Control Room. They also encourage the return of any looted arms, ammunition, or explosives to the nearest police station or security forces promptly.
