In a significant “anti-Naxal” operation, security forces have eliminated more than 14 Maoists in intense encounters in Sukma and Bijapur districts of Chhattisgarh. The clashes, occurring in the dense forests of the Kistaram area in Sukma, involved joint security teams responding to Maoist fire with sustained exchanges lasting hours. Among the casualties were members of the Darbha Valley Committee (DVCM) cadre, including a Naxal commander linked to the killing of Additional SP Akash Girpunje of Konta.

Weapons seized from the encounter site include an AK-47, an INSAS rifle, and various ammunition and explosives. The operation is ongoing, with security teams conducting thorough searches in the region. Authorities plan to confirm the exact number of casualties and identities of the deceased once the forces return from the forested areas. Due to the sensitive nature of the operation, specific operational details are being withheld for the safety of personnel on the ground.

Officials have emphasized that updates on the neutralized Maoists, seized weapons, and overall outcome will be disclosed only after the mission concludes and the area is secured. The government’s efforts against Left-Wing Extremism have led to a decline in insurgency through counter-operations, surrenders, and development projects. While progress has been made, challenges like tribal displacement and inequality persist, posing long-term resolution questions.
