Subroto Sen, a security guard in Mumbai’s Naya Nagar, recounted the violent assault by Zaib Zuber Ansari to the police. Ansari, now in custody, allegedly targeted the victims based on their religious identity. The attack occurred near Wockhardt Hospital, where Ansari approached the guards at an under-construction site around 4 A.M., asking them to recite the Kalma before the assault.
Rajkumar Mishra and Subroto Sen, the victims, sustained severe injuries and were hospitalized. Mishra, despite his condition, managed to reach the hospital on his own, while Sen received help from a local resident. Subroto’s statement to the police revealed that Ansari initially inquired about a mosque and later attacked him with a knife.
Subroto detailed how the assailant, Zuber, followed him and launched the attack at his duty post. Subroto tried to resist but was injured. The attacker then targeted Rajkumar Mishra, demanding he recite the Kalma. Mishra, unable to comply, was repeatedly stabbed. Subroto managed to flee and sought help after the attack.
Fearing for their lives, Subroto and other staff members rushed Mishra and Sen to the hospital. Ansari was swiftly apprehended after the incident, and a case was filed against him for attempted murder and inciting communal discord. Ansari was remanded to police custody until May 4 by a Thane court.
