Senator Elizabeth Warren, the top Democrat on the Senate Banking Committee, has asked Nvidia President and CEO Jensen Huang to testify at a public hearing on artificial intelligence next week. The hearing is scheduled for June 11 in the Dirksen Senate Office Building. Warren’s invitation to Huang has drawn attention to Nvidia’s business interests in China and US export controls.
Warren’s letter to Huang highlighted the importance of discussing the rapid growth of artificial intelligence technologies and their impact on national security, economic competitiveness, and US-China relations. She emphasized that Huang’s testimony would offer insights into NVIDIA’s perspectives on US export control laws and regulations, as well as the company’s operations in China.
The hearing aims to provide senators with a direct opportunity to learn from the leader of one of the world’s most influential AI chipmakers. Participants at the hearing, including Huang, will have five minutes for oral testimony and will face questions from attending senators. Warren requested Huang to confirm his attendance by June 8 for the upcoming hearing on artificial intelligence.
Nvidia has become a key player in the global artificial intelligence landscape, with its cutting-edge graphics processing units supporting various AI systems worldwide. The hearing is anticipated to delve into how major tech companies like Nvidia perceive existing export restrictions and the future regulatory framework concerning advanced AI technologies.
The United States has recently tightened controls on exporting advanced semiconductor technologies to China, citing potential military and strategic uses. This move has sparked discussions between Washington and Beijing and has impacted numerous global tech firms operating in China.
