Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader and former Minister Susanta Singh, aged 53, passed away in Bhubaneswar early Monday morning after battling Motor Neurone Disease. Singh, a three-time Odisha Legislative Assembly representative from Bhatli constituency, served in key roles within the BJD government from 2017 to 2022.
Family sources disclosed that Singh’s health had worsened, leading to his admission to a private hospital where he breathed his last. His mortal remains will be taken to the Assembly premises and the BJD party office for final respects before his last rites in Baragada. Leaders from various political parties, including Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik, have expressed their condolences.
Chief Minister Majhi expressed deep sorrow over Singh’s demise, highlighting his contributions to Odisha’s governance. Former CM Naveen Patnaik also mourned Singh’s passing, acknowledging his organizational skills and popularity within the BJD. Both leaders offered prayers for the departed soul and extended sympathies to Singh’s family.
