Senior leaders from the BJP and JD(S) in Karnataka, including four Union Ministers, are set to meet the Election Commission of India in New Delhi on Tuesday. The purpose of the meeting is to submit a memorandum addressing concerns related to the ongoing Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in the state. The delegation, led by Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi, H.D. Kumaraswamy, Shobha Karandlaje, and V. Somanna, will present their formal complaint seeking the Election Commission’s intervention in the electoral process issues.
The delegation will also include prominent figures like Leader of the Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly R. Ashoka, Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council Chalavadi Narayanaswamy, and others. The leaders plan to outline their concerns in detail and request appropriate action from the Election Commission during the meeting. This move comes amidst a political controversy surrounding alleged irregularities in the revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka.
The BJP and JD(S) have accused the state government of interfering in the revision exercise to sway the process. However, the state government has refuted these allegations. While the Election Commission has not commented on the impending memorandum, the leaders are expected to address the media post their meeting in New Delhi. Union Ministers Pralhad Joshi and H.D. Kumaraswamy recently accused the Karnataka government of disrupting the electoral roll revision process, emphasizing the need for corrective actions.
