Senior civil service officer Vivek Bhimanwar took the oath as the Chairman of the Maharashtra Public Service Commission at a ceremony in Mumbai’s Lok Bhavan. Governor Acharya Devvrat administered the oath during the event. Bhimanwar, a 2009-batch IAS officer who previously served as Transport Commissioner, has been appointed for a term of six years or until he turns 62.
The appointment of Bhimanwar follows a notification from the General Administration Department, with the Governor’s Secretary Dr. Prashant Narnaware announcing the details. The ceremony, in line with new central government guidelines, commenced with the singing of Vande Mataram, followed by the National Anthem and the Maharashtra State Song. It concluded with similar patriotic fervor, featuring Vande Mataram and the National Anthem.
After taking the oath, Bhimanwar received congratulations from Governor Devvrat, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, who presented him with bouquets. The event was graced by former MPSC Chairman Rajnish Seth, Officiating Chairman Dr. Abhay Wagh, various commission members, Chief Minister’s Secretary Shrikar Pardeshi, government officials, and Bhimanwar’s family members.
Bhimanwar’s appointment to lead the Maharashtra Public Service Commission comes at a crucial juncture for the state’s recruitment processes. The commission’s role in conducting examinations and selecting candidates for Group A and Group B posts across government departments is vital for ensuring merit-based appointments and administrative efficiency. With his extensive administrative experience, including as a private secretary to the Chief Minister, Bhimanwar is well-positioned to enhance transparency and efficiency in recruitment cycles.
