A senior officer from the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) lost his life in Quetta, Pakistan, when unidentified attackers shot at him in the Killi Ismail area. Inspector Metha Khan, a recent addition to the CTD, was targeted by armed assailants while passing through the area on Sunday. The attackers, riding motorcycles, opened fire on Khan, resulting in his immediate death.
Law enforcement authorities reported that the gunmen fled the scene after the attack. Following the incident, a search operation was initiated by the police to apprehend the perpetrators. This tragic event adds to a series of recent attacks on security personnel in various regions of Pakistan.
In a separate incident on March 4, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Daulat Khan was killed in a sniper attack at the Badan police post in Bajaur district. The police responded by cordoning off the area and launching a search operation to locate the suspects. Such attacks on security forces have been on the rise in different parts of Pakistan in recent weeks.
A report by an Islamabad-based think tank highlighted a concerning trend of combat-related deaths in Pakistan, showing a 30% increase in February alone. The rise was attributed to a surge in suicide attacks across the country, resulting in a significant number of casualties. The report documented a total of 470 deaths and 333 injuries in February, with a notable impact on civilians, security personnel, and militants.
