The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has granted a two-year extension to Shyam Jagannathan, a senior IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre, in his central deputation as Director General (Shipping) in the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. Jagannathan will continue overseeing the Directorate General of Shipping, India’s top maritime regulatory body, headquartered in Mumbai. Established in 1949, this organization plays a crucial role in enforcing maritime policies, ensuring safety, regulating shipping activities, and promoting seafarers’ welfare.

In another decision, the ACC has approved the repatriation of Sanjay Jaju, a Telangana-cadre IAS officer, back to his parent state at the request of the Telangana government. Jaju, currently serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, will return to Telangana after nearly 13 years of central deputation. His varied roles in the Central government included serving as Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, handling media and communication policies.
