Indian Stock Markets Close Higher on Positive Sentiment
Indian stock markets closed higher on Monday, with gains in information technology and metal stocks driving the benchmark indices up. Investor confidence was boosted by optimism surrounding the India–New Zealand free trade agreement. The Sensex ended at 85,567.48, up 638.12 points, while the Nifty settled at 26,161.60, marking a gain of 195.20 points.
Experts noted that the Nifty confirmed a breakout above the 26,050–26,100 zone, signaling a double-bottom pattern and reinforcing the daily uptrend. As long as the index maintains support above 25,950–26,000, the broader structure remains bullish, with a close above 26,200 paving the way towards 26,300–26,500.
Top gainers on the BSE included Trent, Infosys, and Bharti Airtel, while State Bank of India, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Larsen & Toubro were the top laggards. On the NSE, Trent, Shriram Finance, and Wipro emerged as top performers, with HDFC Life Insurance, Tata Consumer Products, and State Bank of India dragging the index lower.
The broader market also saw gains, with the Nifty SmallCap 100 index rising by 1.17% and the Nifty MidCap 100 index gaining 0.84%. The IT sector outperformed, with the Nifty IT index rising by 2.06%, while metal stocks also saw strong gains, with the Nifty Metal index climbing by 1.41%. However, the Nifty Consumer Durables sector ended slightly lower by 0.16%.
Analysts highlighted that the market closed positively, driven by sectoral strength and improving investor sentiment, despite lingering caution due to trade negotiations, geopolitical uncertainties, and crude price volatility.
