A serious road accident took place on National Highway-31 near Jurabganj in Bihar’s Katihar district. A speeding Scorpio SUV collided head-on with an auto-rickshaw, causing severe damage and injuring all ten occupants. Eyewitnesses described the collision as extremely severe, leading to panic in the area.
Local residents quickly responded to the crash, assisting in rescuing the injured passengers trapped in the mangled vehicle. The injured individuals were promptly taken to the Kodha Community Health Centre for immediate medical attention. Subsequently, all ten victims were referred to hospitals in Purnea for specialized treatment.
Girish Chandra, the Medical Officer at Kodha CHC, mentioned that all ten injured persons received initial treatment at the hospital, with five remaining in critical condition. Following the incident, police teams from Kodha police station arrived at the scene to conduct rescue and traffic management operations. A crane was utilized to clear the damaged vehicles from the highway, enabling the resumption of traffic flow.
Authorities seized both the Scorpio SUV and the auto-rickshaw involved in the accident. Initial investigations indicate that excessive speed and negligent driving might have played a role in the collision. The families of the victims expressed distress upon learning about the accident, with relatives gathering at hospitals in Purnea for updates on the injured.
