At least seven people lost their lives, and three others were injured in two explosions that occurred in Bannu district of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The blasts took place in Marka Bera, a semi-tribal mountainous area of Bannu’s Wazir sub-division. The District Police Officer, Yasir Afridi, confirmed the casualties, stating that the incidents involved remote-controlled blasts targeting two vehicles in the Phang Musa Khel area.
Security forces have already reached the site to investigate the explosions and gather evidence. The first blast targeted a vehicle heading towards Domel, resulting in the death of five individuals and the complete destruction of the vehicle. Eyewitnesses reported a second blast occurring nearly a kilometer away from the first explosion, claiming two lives and destroying another vehicle. The incidents have raised concerns about the safety of civilians traveling through the region, highlighting the ongoing security challenges in the remote mountainous areas of Bannu.
The Bannu district has witnessed a series of security incidents in recent months, with civilians and local security forces being targeted in militant attacks. In a separate incident on June 12, a police constable was fatally shot while returning home after an event on Bannu-Miranshah Road. The security situation in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, has deteriorated, as reported by the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies (PICSS) in their latest monthly assessment. The rise in militant activities, including attacks, casualties, suicide bombings, and kidnappings, underscores the persistent security challenges faced by the region.
