At least seven migrant laborers from Bihar are feared dead in a tragic incident at a stone quarry in Bengaluru South taluk. The mishap occurred early on Thursday when a massive boulder collapsed at the Kaveri Crusher unit in Madapatna village. Several other workers were injured, and rescue teams are working to save those possibly trapped under the debris.
Around 20 laborers were working at the quarry when a large rock suddenly fell on them. The workers, who were around 40 feet below the surface, had been conducting quarrying operations following blasting work carried out the previous day. Police suspect that the death toll may rise as the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed.
Five laborers suffered severe injuries and were taken to RR Hospital for medical treatment. Additionally, heavy boulders damaged excavation machinery during the collapse. Eyewitnesses mentioned that the workers had no prior warning before the boulder collapsed suddenly.
Rescue operations are ongoing as authorities clear the debris to locate any trapped workers. Senior police officers and district administration officials are at the scene overseeing the rescue efforts. An investigation has been initiated to determine the cause of the collapse.
