Seven passengers were kidnapped in Cameroon’s Northwest region while traveling from Bafoussam to Bamenda when armed men intercepted their vehicle. The abductors are demanding a ransom for their release, as reported by family members to local media. Kidnappings for ransom are common in the English-speaking Northwest region due to clashes between separatists and government forces.
Last month, suspected separatist fighters kidnapped 12 people, including 10 passengers on a bus, in the same region. The bus was intercepted by gunmen while en route from Ndop to Bamenda. The separatists demanded a ransom and halted movement along the highway, prompting a search operation for the hostages by local authorities.
In another incident, about eight passengers on a bus were kidnapped by suspected separatist fighters in Cameroon’s Northwest Region. The bus, traveling from Bamenda to Kumbo, was intercepted by gunmen in the Bamessing locality. The abductors demanded a ransom for the passengers’ release, initiating a search operation for the victims.
