Severe cold wave and dense fog conditions in Rajasthan have led district administrations to shut down schools in 20 districts to ensure children’s safety. Orders have been issued to close schools for lower classes between January 6 and January 12, varying by district. In districts like Jaipur, Hanumangarh, and Sikar, schools from Class 1 to Class 8 will remain closed for different durations.
In Sri Ganganagar, schools up to Class 5 will be shut till January 12, while Kota will have a one-day closure on January 6 for Classes 1 to 8. In Jaipur, Classes 1 to 5 will be off from January 6 to 10, and Classes 6 to 8 till January 8. Similar closures are in place in Bundi, Baran, Dausa, Chittorgarh, and Ajmer, with schools set to reopen between January 7 and January 8 based on local conditions.
The decision to close schools comes as temperatures drop significantly, fog reduces visibility, and cold wave conditions impact daily life in the state. The Meteorological Department has cautioned that the cold spell may persist for the next few days. District administrations have specified that teachers and staff may still need to report to schools unless instructed otherwise.
Parents are urged to stay informed about local directives, as extensions to the closures may be announced if the cold weather worsens. Several districts in Rajasthan, except Barmer and Jaisalmer, have recorded temperatures below 10 degrees, bringing a chill across the desert state.
