The impact of El Nino is predicted to be severe in the southern states, particularly affecting Telugu-speaking regions, as stated by Telangana’s Revenue Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy. He highlighted that this year’s rainfall is expected to be significantly below normal due to the El Nino effect. Srinivas Reddy emphasized that while many states are facing El Nino’s impact, the rainfall deficit is likely to be particularly harsh in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Deputy Chief Minister and Finance Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka revealed that the Telangana government is actively developing comprehensive plans to mitigate the effects of El Nino on various sectors such as agriculture, drinking water, and power. The government aims to raise awareness among the public regarding the impact of El Nino to enable families and villages to plan effectively in advance. Vikramarka made these statements during a state-level awareness session organized by the Planning Department in Hyderabad.

The government is also focusing on promoting alternative crops that require less water based on expert advice to safeguard farmers from economic losses during drought conditions. Additionally, efforts are being made to ensure adequate water supply for drinking, irrigation, and livestock needs. The government is implementing efficient energy management strategies to address the increased demand caused by El Nino, including maximizing the use of solar power to reduce financial burdens on the public.
