Severe weather conditions, including heavy rain, strong storms, and lightning, have led to significant destruction in Uttar Pradesh, resulting in 24 fatalities and 15 injuries over the past two days. The extreme weather events have also claimed the lives of 16 animals.
Multiple districts in the state have been impacted by continuous rainfall, gusty winds, and frequent lightning strikes, disrupting normal life. Those most affected include farmers working in open fields, individuals outdoors, and families living in mud houses. Fallen trees, power outages, and waterlogging have been reported in various areas.
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased and assured full support from the state government during this crisis. Immediate and proper medical treatment for the injured, as well as essential healthcare facilities in hospitals, are being ensured as per the Chief Minister’s directives. Compensation for the deceased, injured, and losses of livestock will be provided within 24 hours.
Efforts are underway by administrative teams for relief operations in the affected districts, with door-to-door damage assessments ongoing and aid being extended to those in need. The India Meteorological Department has warned of continued heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and lightning in several parts of the state in the coming days, indicating ongoing risks.
Weather patterns are also changing in other northern Indian regions, with Delhi and the National Capital Region experiencing rainfall and hailstorms, providing relief from heatwave conditions. The IMD has forecasted light to moderate showers in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, and Chandigarh on Friday.
