Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore is set to receive recognition at The International Film Festival Delhi (IFFD) for her significant contributions to Indian cinema. The festival, scheduled from March 25 to 31 in New Delhi’s Bharat Mandapam at Pragati Maidan, will feature screenings in city multiplexes and open-air venues to make quality cinema accessible to a wide audience. Tagore expressed her joy at the honor, emphasizing the importance of film festivals as platforms for global cinema to converge.
Sharmila Tagore, who began her acting career at 14 with Satyajit Ray’s “The World of Apu” in 1959, collaborated on multiple projects with Ray, including “Devi,” “Nayak,” “Aranyer Din Ratri,” and “Seemabaddha.” Transitioning to Bollywood with “Kashmir Ki Kali” in 1964, she delivered notable performances in films like “Waqt,” “Anupama,” “Aradhana,” “Amar Prem,” and “Chupke Chupke.” Her impactful presence extended to Bengali cinema with movies such as “Barnali,” “Shes Anko,” “Nirjan Saikate,” “Amanush,” “Anand Ashram,” and “Kalankini Kankabati.”
