Sharmistha Mukherjee, daughter of former President Pranab Mukherjee, expressed concerns about the Congress party’s organizational strength, attributing it to what she sees as a failure on the part of Rahul Gandhi. She highlighted the party’s consistent electoral losses since 2014 when Rahul assumed a prominent role in Congress.
Mukherjee, in an interview, criticized Rahul Gandhi for what she described as his tendency to withdraw from the political scene post-elections, emphasizing the need for a more dedicated approach to politics. She refrained from directly comparing Rahul Gandhi to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acknowledging Modi’s success in providing stability to the country.
Regarding PM Modi, Mukherjee acknowledged his role in offering a stable government and praised initiatives like Digital India for advancing the country’s digitization. She emphasized that every Prime Minister contributes uniquely to the nation’s progress and cautioned against simplistic comparisons between leaders.
Mukherjee expressed skepticism about Congress’s prospects in the upcoming years, pointing out the party’s reliance on alliances rather than strengthening its organizational structure. She underscored the importance of continuous political engagement and criticized what she perceived as Rahul Gandhi’s sporadic involvement in party activities.
