The Shiv Sena, led by Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray, criticized the BJP-led government for undermining Indian democracy, freedom, and the Constitution. The party highlighted two recent events: the forceful removal of activist Sonam Wangchuk by Delhi Police during a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar and the Lok Sabha Speaker’s recognition of rebel factions from Shiv Sena and Trinamool Congress.
According to the party’s editorial in ‘Saamana’, Sonam Wangchuk was taken away by armed police in a late-night operation, likened to an anti-terrorist raid, due to his growing public support. Despite being hospitalized, Wangchuk continues his protest from the ICU, calling it the “Second Freedom Movement”.
The editorial also criticized the Speaker for acknowledging ‘defector’ factions from Shiv Sena and Trinamool Congress, alleging a violation of the Indian Constitution. It accused the government of encouraging party splits and termed the Speaker’s approval of the merger as an attack on parliamentary integrity.
The Shiv Sena accused the Modi government of relying on falsehoods and repression to stay in power, alleging electoral malpractices. It condemned the government’s actions as a threat to democracy and called for international scrutiny of the situation.
