The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) expressed disapproval towards the Maharashtra government for excluding the opposition and others from the ‘Dharmadhvaja’ hoisting event at the Shri Kalaram Temple in Nashik. The party highlighted that the ceremony, held at the historic temple, was more of a political display for the BJP rather than a religious festivity, missing the essence of collective faith celebration. The editorial in the party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana’, emphasized the historical significance of the Kalaram Temple and its role in social unity.
The editorial pointed out that the event, attended by notable figures like former President Ram Nath Kovind and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, did not extend invitations to the descendants of prominent historical figures like Dr Ambedkar and Mahatma Phule. It also noted the absence of invitations to leaders from various political parties, which could have better represented the entire Hindu community and national unity. The editorial raised concerns about the event taking place amidst state investment and social unrest, criticizing the potential misuse of funds allocated for the Kumbh Mela.
The newly hoisted Dharmadhvaja at the Kalaram Temple, featuring Lord Hanuman’s image and the ‘Om’ symbol, symbolizes bravery, sacrifice, and protection. Despite the political undertones surrounding the event, the flag continues to be revered by the public as a symbol of faith and unity. The editorial highlighted the historical significance of the religious flag in inspiring resilience against invaders and upholding the values of protection and restraint, even during challenging times in history.
