The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) highlighted the growing complexity of India’s geopolitical situation, citing incidents like the Pahalgam attack that have left the country seemingly isolated without strong global support. The party’s editorial in ‘Saamana’ emphasized India’s unstable international position, portraying a nation of 1.4 billion people as increasingly insignificant on the global stage amidst economic and security uncertainties.
According to the editorial, recent actions by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), including the reported sale of 83 tons of gold from the national treasury to stabilize the economy, have raised concerns about the potential disposal of national assets. Despite efforts to showcase investigative successes, such as linking terrorist activities to China, India has struggled to garner resolute international backing, notably from major powers like the US and China.
Critics have pointed out India’s lack of a strong global ally, contrasting with alliances supporting countries like Iran and Pakistan. The editorial criticized India for not taking a more assertive stance against China, especially in response to incidents like the Galwan Valley clash and the Pahalgam attack. It also highlighted strained diplomatic relations with neighboring nations, including Nepal’s shift towards Beijing and the diminishing cultural ties with India.
The editorial lamented the perceived decline in India’s diplomatic influence, contrasting the current administration’s approach with the historical engagement strategies of past leaders like Jawaharlal Nehru. It underscored a need for more proactive diplomacy towards neighboring states, expressing concerns over the country’s diminishing regional relationships.
