The Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) expressed on Maharashtra’s 67th Foundation Day that Marathi people feel marginalized by “Maharashtra-haters” and compliant local leaders. They urged Marathis to uphold Maharashtra Dharma to safeguard their heritage against perceived threats. The party criticized the lack of enforcement of Marathi language, citing instances where rickshaw drivers in Mumbai reportedly refuse to speak Marathi.
The party’s mouthpiece, ‘Saamana,’ highlighted concerns about Maharashtra’s self-respect and Marathi identity being suppressed by external influences and submissive rulers. It warned of a “national conspiracy” targeting Maharashtra’s cultural essence. The editorial emphasized the need for Marathi people to resist this threat by revitalizing the spirit of Maharashtra Dharma.
The editorial criticized the disparity between promises made for Marathi welfare and the actual implementation. It questioned the ownership of Mumbai, emphasizing the historical contributions of mill workers and laborers. The editorial lamented the alleged neglect of Marathi language enforcement by the current administration, suggesting a disconnect between rhetoric and reality.
The editorial also raised objections to recent changes in educational curricula that seemingly diminish the significance of Maratha history and Shivaji Maharaj. It accused authorities of erasing the state’s heritage and undermining Marathi identity deliberately. The party called for a renewed commitment to preserving Maharashtra’s cultural legacy and urged the public to honor the sacrifices of those who fought for the state’s formation.
