The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance dominated municipal corporations in Maharashtra, but Parbhani in Marathwada stood out. In a significant upset, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena halted the BJP’s progress, securing a historic win in the Parbhani Municipal Corporation. This victory marks the first time Shiv Sena will directly govern Parbhani, ending a long reign by the NCP and Congress.
Shiv Sena emerged as the largest party in Parbhani, surpassing the ruling Mahayuti partners. With 25 seats, Shiv Sena outperformed Congress, BJP, NCP, and other parties. The alliance of Shiv Sena UBT and Congress is poised to claim the Mayor’s post, marking a significant shift in local governance.
The victory is attributed to the leadership of MP Sanjay Jadhav and MLA Dr. Rahul Patil, despite BJP’s high-profile campaign efforts. Shiv Sena strategically contested 48 seats and allied with Congress in others to consolidate anti-Mahayuti votes. The failure of Mahayuti partners to convert state-level support into local wins highlights the strength of Shiv Sena’s regional influence.
