Amid speculation about Y.S. Sharmila’s potential Rajya Sabha nomination from Karnataka, Shiv Sena and Shiv Sena-UBT expressed approval of the Congress leader’s possible opportunity. The reactions came after Sharmila met Rahul Gandhi, fueling reports of her consideration for a nomination to the Upper House.
Shiv Sena’s Krishna Hegde mentioned the ongoing contest for three or four Rajya Sabha seats in Karnataka by Congress factions. He highlighted the competition between D.K. Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah’s groups to secure seats for their respective candidates.
Referring to Sharmila’s father, former Karnataka Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy, Hegde emphasized his significant contributions to Congress. Supporting Sharmila’s potential candidacy, he praised her as a young face with a strong family legacy within the party.
Shiv Sena-UBT leader Anand Dubey acknowledged Sharmila’s influence in Andhra Pradesh and parts of Telangana. He suggested that if Sharmila is willing to work for Congress and seeks a Rajya Sabha seat from Karnataka, it could lead to a mutually beneficial agreement between her and the party.
Dubey advised Congress to consider the potential benefits of promoting a woman like Sharmila for the Rajya Sabha, emphasizing the party’s capability to secure multiple seats in Karnataka.
