Shrachi Bengal Tigers secured a 1-0 victory over Soorma Hockey Club in the opening match of the Women’s Hockey India League (HIL) 2025-26 season at the Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Ranchi. Agustina Gorzelany’s (11’) powerful drag flick in the first quarter gave the Tigers the lead, which they maintained despite Soorma’s strong attacking efforts.

Both teams started with an intense midfield battle, but Soorma Hockey Club gradually gained confidence, making several incursions into the Tigers’ shooting circle without managing a shot. The Tigers, on the other hand, capitalized on a penalty corner opportunity with Gorzelany converting to extend their lead.

Soorma continued their offensive in the second quarter, earning multiple penalty corners but failing to breach the Tigers’ defense. Despite Soorma’s persistent efforts, the Tigers’ defense, led by Lalremsiami, held firm to preserve their lead. The match remained tense with both teams seeking goals, but the scoreline remained unchanged by the end of the third quarter.

In the final moments, Soorma intensified their attacks, earning a late penalty corner, but failed to convert as the Tigers’ defense stood strong. The Shrachi Bengal Tigers managed to hold on to their lead and secure a 1-0 victory in their season opener, showcasing solid defensive play and occasional attacking threats.
